What if a performance didn’t end with applause?

In Gathering Voices: Raising the Curtain, performance becomes a space for engagement, where audiences gather, listen, and respond. Organized by a collective of Northern Utah theatre professionals within a community-based nonprofit organization, Gathering Voices: Raising the Curtain brings together performers committed to taking action alongside the audiences they serve.

Parrhesia, a performance rooted in the concept of “fearless speech”—truth-telling in public, often in the face of risk—unfolds through music, poetry, and spoken word. The production engages a range of contemporary issues, including voting rights, environmental advocacy, LGBTQ+ representation, and access to information, positioning performance as a space for dialogue as much as expression.

What distinguishes Gathering Voices: Raising the Curtain, however, is what happens beyond the stage. Throughout the performance, audiences are invited to engage in real time by scanning QR codes to access petitions, resources, and advocacy tools. The experience continues after the final number, as attendees are encouraged to stay, connect with local organizations, write representatives, and register to vote. All performances are free and hosted in public library spaces.

Performance Dates & Locations

As both a performance and a gathering, Raising the Curtain asks audiences to consider what it means not just to witness—but to participate.
